My friend Alyssa contacted me a while back about taking pictures of her son, Elliot. Elliot is also in my Kindermusik Classes in Kent and he is just the cutest little guy ever! His latest fascination is trying to scare Miss Dana in class by yelling, "BOO!" at me. It's been fun!
The biggest reason Alyssa called me is because Elliot is very cautious when it comes to new people, new places and new things. I can relate to this, as my older daughter Simone was the same way. Anywhere we went, it took a good 20-30 minutes for her to warm up before she would leave my side. I jokingly called her my "clinging vine". In reality, all children really need and want is to know that they are safe and secure and it's our job as parents to make sure we provide that for them. Going to a studio or a professional photographer that Elliot didn't know would have been a complete disaster so I was happy to throw my camera around my neck to try to help her out a little bit!
Step 1: Make sure that Elliot knows Mom is there and loves him to pieces! This step took a good 10-15 minutes.
Step 2: Toss him into the swing at Miss Dana's house with his favorite Thomas the Train to try to get him comfortable with my backyard
Step 3: Let's try the slide and other stuff on the swingset! Ok, I think we're having fun now and mom can take a few steps back.
Step 4: Survey the rest of the yard to see what other fun things there are to do.
Step 5: Hang time in the maple tree. Gotta relax a little after all that playing!
Elliot, you did great! I am so proud of you!
XOXO,
Miss Dana
